What's in my diaper bag.

Saturday I washed my diaper bag. After emptying the contents, I decided this would make a good blog! It took a few months of trial and error to narrow down what Betsy *really* needed in her diaper bag. I hate hauling things we don't use often, the bag already feels like I'm carrying a ton of bricks. So here we go!

Cooler (usually contains two bottles and a small ice pack), two disposable diaper change pads, small pack wipes, small box of diaper disposal bags, 6-8 diapers, light weight blanket, 2 extra pacifiers, small musical toy, gallon size plastic bag with one burp cloth, two bibs, and a change of clothing for Betsy.

Gallon size bag containing barrette, lady products, hand sanitizer, thermometer, travel Lysol, travel lotion, baby powder, and Aquaphor, baby Tylenol and Mylicon, and a baby spoon.

Gallon bag with burp cloth, bibs and clothing change. If Betsy "soils" something I usually wrap it up in a diaper disposal bag.

When I'm traveling I add extras of things, but this is our supply for our day-to-day errands.

Weekend update

We've had a fun weekend! Friday I did some shopping and spruced up our guest room a bit. Our friends Cameron and Monica came to Killeen so Cameron could compete in a weightlifting competition. We had a nice dinner out then came home to enjoy the beautiful weather on the back porch. Betsy got lots of snuggles from Monica, but couldn't keep her eyes off Cameron, she was in love!

Saturday both Ben and I worked a bit. Betsy spent a couple hours with my fantastic in-laws. What would we do without them? I don't know! Saturday night we took it easy, played with Betsy and caught up on our rest. We also discovered *gasp* Betsy's second tooth!

Today Ben woke up and did the yard work while Betsy and I slept in. I feel wonderful, this is the best weekend of sleep I've had in ages. After lunch we headed to Round Rock to meet Uncle JD at the outlet mall. Betsy got some new clothes from Carters (adorable!) in twelve month and eighteen month sizes. We also got Ben some polarized sunglasses for his newly lasiked eyes.

Here are some pictures from the weekend, including the new teeth!

New hair, new woman

It's amazing how something as small as a haircut is such a pick-me-up!

She's on the move

I should have taken a video last night, but I didn't want to spend all night uploading it. Here's the sweet girl moving around the living room. Imagine it in an action sequence. It took all of two minutes to make this progress.

And after all that excitement, she fell asleep early.

New Blog

If you're interested in crafts and entertaining check out my new blog projectsandparties.blogspot.com . I'll try to keep the 'Life is Beautiful' blog about the family, while directing my creative efforts to the other blog.

Betsy goes to the doctor

Betsy and Ben went to the plastic surgeon yesterday for a consult about the spot on her nose and a second opinion about the bump on her chest.

The doctor compared the red spot on her nose to a blood blister. He said it will go away, it make take three months, maybe 6 months, maybe a year. He wants us to monitor it and we have a follow up in three months for him to take another look.

He also looked at bump on her chest. It causes no pain, moves around if you push on it and is not discolored. This is all good news. The doctor said if it seemed to cause her any pain he would have elected to remove it immediately but since it doesn't we'll just keep an eye on it.

And finally we asked the doctor to take a peek in her right ear which she's been tugging on lately. No worries, it's not an ear infection, she just gets tired and pulls on the ear.

Ben and Betsy enjoyed their day together, I know they are both going to love being home together in the summer. Betsy has a new found love of these hard, textured balls that my friend Mandy gave her. She rolls them around and crawls toward them to pick them up. Yesterday she took a nap holding one in her hand. She chowed down on squash and pears last night, had her bath and bottle and put herself to sleep at about 9.

That's all for now, I'll try to take some fun pictures tonight :)

Like magic!

Birthday

One month

Two months

Three months

Four months old

Five months old

I've heard other moms say "At 3 months it was like someone flipped a switch and he could ______". Betsy's development for the last 5 months has gradually flowed from one thing to the next. UNTIL THIS WEEKEND. It was like magic! Presto changeo she's a big girl. It's like someone flipped a switch at five months and she does all kinds of things.

Betsy is sitting up for a good 10 or 15 seconds unassisted. She is thisclose to pulling herself up to sit on her play mat. She can stand and hold on to things on her own. She's developing balance.

She rolls around like a ball (not like a log). She rolls over her shoulders like she's flipping. I don't know HOW but I'll lay her down one direction on her stomach turn my back and she's 4 feet away on her back facing the opposite direction. In like, 15 seconds she does this!

Her hand eye coordination is getting better. She holds things, bottles, balls, stuffed animals. And picks up her ninnie if it falls out of her mouth.

On the potential soccer star front- she can pick up things with her feet as well. Weird.

This morning she held her bottle for the first half of her feeding.

She takes her ninnie out of her mouth, turns it around and tried to put it in the mouths of her little friends.

She also tries to roll over and hug her friends when they lay next to her, and put her fingers in their mouths or chew on their fingers if they get too close to her mouth.

If there is a baby in her vicinity she tries to talk to them.

She laughs. She's giggled for a long time, but look at the video below, she can't contain her laughter.

She has a tooth! I didn't see this coming. No runny nose. No fussy face. There are copious amounts of drool happening (and she sticks her fingers in her mouth) but I didn't attribute it to teething until yesterday.

They grow so fast, it's amazing.
