Weekend update!

Saturday Betsy, Ben and I went to Belton to watch his school softball team play in a tournament. After the game we went to buy my new camera (all these pictures were taken with the new camera) then headed home.

This is how we plan to keep Betsy from growing. Make her sleep sideways in the crib.

Ben's friend Matt came over to play Wii. We had a great time catching up with him.

Ben cooked a great brisket for lunch, and we had his mom over to eat with us!

Maddie pre-haircut

Poor Madison after I got ahold of her with the clippers.

Clean baby, so sweet.

Grandma with cousin William.

Snack time, it's easy to tell how much Betsy loves crackers.

Nice weather this afternoon!

Betsy found these white gloves in her closet that I bought for her to wear for Easter. Betsy LOVES the gloves. She kept bringing them to me and holding her hand out until I put them on for her.

After I snuck the gloves off I took sweet Betsy outside to enjoy the grass beneath her toes. The back door is still open, it's about 68 degrees and a clear day. What a nice way to start the weekend :)

TGIF!

This week has been tough, I don't have much to blog about (actually I have a ton to talk about I'm just too tired). Enjoy some Betsy pictures from this week.

Getting ready for school one day earlier this week. Betsy is ready to get out the door! The kiddo loves school (and Maddie).

Enjoy some Betsy art.

Books, books, books. And her favorite book is her bible story book! See Betsy reading about Noah's Ark.

My dear sweet friend Allyson (who is living in Germany where her husband is stationed) painted this stepping stool for Betsy and she LOVES it. In the last few months she's taken to carrying it around, trying to sit on it (occasionally the wrong way...see)

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Betsy's done a few things in the last couple days that made me smile. I think she's on the brink of embracing 'imagination play' as she has been imitating Mommy and Daddy.

1. At the doctor's office Monday Betsy took a little notebook out of my purse and went to sit next to the big kids who were reading magazines. The big kids deemed her 'So cute!' and Betsy chattered away while pointing at her book. I guess she was telling them about the interesting story she was reading. She says 'book' so often now, when I dropped her off at school this morning she ran straight to the book shelf, pointed to the books, said 'book!' and looked at the daycare director. When I walked back by a few minutes later she was sitting 'reading' with a friend from class. I guess the kiddo will share my love of literature after all!

2. Friday while I ambled up and down the aisles of Hobby Lobby looking for the perfect decor for my new entertainment unit (not to exceed 7.5 inches wide by 11 inches tall) I used a measuring tape quite often. Betsy has become enamored with my measuring tape. So while in the room, speaking to the doctor Betsy took the tape measure out of my purse and started measuring things around the room. The resident who was working with our pediatrician fell in love with Betsy. How could you not love a baby measuring the length of the patient chairs and the height of the doctor's stool?

3. Last night during bath time with Ben I walked into a hilarious sight. Not only does Betsy love playing with her squirters and ducks but she also enjoys a relaxing soak in the tub. She must have observed Mommy and Daddy relaxing and soaking in the tub before because she used Ben's legs like a reclining chair, laid back in the water, closed her eyes and puckered her lips. Geez Betsy, is life so hard as a 14 month old that you need a relaxing soak in the tub before bed?

4. She's mimicking more noises, the time has come at last that she's learned the word 'no (oh!). She mimics puppy (pup....EE!). Lots of words.

She's growing and getting smarter every day. It's amazing.

The best feeling

This morning Betsy woke up early (as she had gone to bed an hour early last night). Ben brought her in bed with a bottle and she noisily sucked it down. We gave her pacifier back to her and she snuggled with us for about an hour before it was time to get up. I wish I could describe what's so sweet about snuggling with Betsy. Her skin is so soft. I rub her back under her shirt while she's next to me. She pushes as hard as she can against me. She nestles her head into my neck and under my hair if she can. She has these spurts of sucking her pacifier and she's loud! I feel her ninnie move in time against my cheek to the squeak, squeak, squeak noises she makes. She sighs often in her sleep and her heavy breathing is like taking a tranqilizer. Nothing mellows me out more than Betsy sleeping next to me. It makes me slow down to feel her breathing, hear her 'ninnieing' and appreciate the moment. I laid there the whole time with a smile on my face and got out of bed on the 'right' side this morning.

Good news from the doctor...

Betsy's ears are clear! No infection! He did however check her medical records and noting she has had five rounds of ear infections in six months we got the referral for an appointment with an Ear Nose and Throat doctor. Dr. C recommends we try to wait out getting tubes as March is the tail end of the season for ear infections. Also, if she gets tubes before the summer we'll have to take precautions for her to not get water in her ears and as Grandma and Grandpa have a pool it would be nice to not have to worry about that.

Betsy weighed in at 22 pounds 5 ounces fully dressed, with shoes and a jacket. She stood on the big kid scale this time rather than sitting in the baby seat scale. Since we had to wait a while to be seen Dr. C went ahead and gave her 15 month booster shots so we don't have to come back in a week. Betsy was pretty worn out last night and after a few minutes web-camming with Granny she passed out at 6:30 pm.

Back to the doctor we go.

Last night Betsy woke up whining. This only happens when she has an ear infection. Also, yesterday she was digging in one of her ears. Luckily we got an appointment for this afternoon with her pediatrician. I expect we'll (finally) get an appointment with an ENT specialist and discuss getting tubes in her ears.
