Easter Sunday

I took a couple pictures of Betsy in her Easter dress before church. I wish I had gotten more pictures but she wasn't interested in staying still, and as it was drizzling, I wasn't very interested either!

Bets took a short nap between church and lunch and Grandma and Grandpa's house.

Betsy and Cousin Will were the life of the party! I love this little sailor dress my mom sent Betsy for Easter...

We had a wonderful Easter and hope you did too!

Design on a Dime...

This is the LAST post for quite a while about Betsy's room. I'm done with the minor decrating I have been working on. With the addition of the toddler bed I ended up buying...

- New changing pad cover $12
- a fleece blanket $8
- two new pillows and two pillow cases $14
- three pillow forms $15
- one seat pad $2
- four yards of fabric $20
- one basket $4
- one pattern $2
- five picture frames $7.50
- six pieces of scrap booking paper $3
- one bag of poly fill $3
- Ribbon $2
- buttons $.50

The beauty of these projects is that most of it can be reused. I can always recover the pillow forms. I can reuse the picture frames and baskets. I can use the brown blanket in another room if I need to, I still have most of the bag of polyfill to use for future projects. Should I decide to change these things in a year or two, I'll only be out of pocket about thirty dollars.

Look! Teddy Bear finally got eyes and a nose! I found it pretty funny that this was the first time I've ever sewed a button on anything. All this other junk I've sewn and this is the first time I have sewn a button.

Betsy's room doesn't look anything like what I've seen online or in catalogs. I'm sure it looks a little more 'homemade' but I'm OK with that! I've loved making these things and it's unique and personal to my Betsy-girl.

P.S. Betsy LOVED the new bear. She ran in her room, picked it up and called it 'mine' and I told her it was a bear. Then she called it 'mine bear'.

Don't tell Betsy...

but the Easter Bunny has already put her basket together. It contains some goldfish and fruit strips, a few Precious Moments board books, a mini Cabbage Patch doll, a stuffed 'Nauzer with bunny ears, and some crayon handles. I can't wait to see what she thinks of everything as I think this is the first holiday she will understand that the items in the basket are special and for her. This should be a very fun weekend!

First teddy bear

I bought a pattern today so I could try a new project...a teddy bear for Betsy's room. The pattern I purchased came with three options, teddy bear, bunny and dog. I still need to add the eyes, I didn't have any buttons I could use.

The finished product reminded me of these stuffed animals made by Victoria's Secret... remember these?

I think the teddy bear was a fun project, and I'll probably try it again in the future with different fabric.

More stretch and wake

The Ultimate Birthday Invitation

Ben's birthday is coming up (three weeks from tomorrow!) and in honor of his love of all things movie related we're throwing a movie themed birthday bash. My sweet friend Corie was amazing doing some photo shopping for me, and we created this invitation!

This is the movie cover for '300' starring Gerard Butler. It's about history, and bravery and war and while it's pretty graphic we like the movie.

This is our photo shopped version of the movie cover for '300'...turned 30th birthday invitation.

Ben was SO thrilled and proud of how these came out. He tells me he has 24 days to develop ab muscles like Leonidas (but I have a back up plan involving a ruler and a sharpie if that doesn't work out for him). I've been thinking about this party for a while and I'm pretty excited it's getting so close. Though I DO have quite a bit of work left to do to get ready!

Big, huge thanks to Corie for all her hard work :) She is awesome.

Sewing kick

I am on a weird sewing kick. I see so many things and wonder if I could make them myself. I have a *VERY* small amount of actual training when it comes to sewing so I experience 'trial and error' quite a bit. I used to look at everything for it's embroidery potential (before I really jumped into sewing). Now I look at cloth items wondering how much effort would be required to make it myself, and how much (the cost of fabric) would be invested in making the item. Many things I write off as not worth the effort of making myself (namely, play clothes for EJB and some housewares, like table cloths and curtain panels).

The projects I have on my short list to try are...

Camera strap
Camera case (this one will be a BIG project)
Stuffed animals

We'll see if I come up with anything blog worthy in the next week :)
