how fast babies take on and learn a new task?
Balancing. Betsy just started to try to stand on her own (without her Lion!) this week...and she does it over and over and over. I first told Ben I thought she'd be a solid stander in another few weeks. If she keeps up at this pace, she'll be a solid stander by Friday.

Happy Bets
Betsy has developed a sense of humor. So many things make her giggle these days.
Yesterday after eating she was half asleep and I laid her in her crib in an effort to do some laundry. Ben walked in and asked where she was, and when we walked by her open door she was standing there grinning at us. We said "Hey!" and she started cracking up.
When she removes her own diaper and you ask her what she's doing...she laughs.
When she's crawling somewhere she shouldn't and you ask her where she's going she laughs.
She is ticklish, on her ribs, her neck and her feet. She laughs and snorts.
When we throw her around in the air, or lift her in circles (like she's on a carnival ride) she smiles and laughs and it's impossible to take your eyes off of her.
When we're in the midst of a diaper change and she tinkles all over the table and I make an exasperated face, she giggles.
When Madison drops a toy at Betsy's feet, Betsy squeals and laughs.
When Madison steals a cookie from Betsy, she laughs (I doubt this will last long).
When Ben and I laugh...Betsy laughs.
When she pulls up, sits down, pulls up, sits down, and peeks over the side of the couch. She laughs.
When I'm trying to feed her, and she keeps trying to intercept the spoon with her hand (which she helps me 'guide' to her mouth) she then laughs while she swallows.
When I push buttons on her toy phone and pretend she's having a conversation with one of her friends she laughs (Mom! If you use my phone I get to use your phone!).
When she sees herself in the mirror (or one of us!) she laughs.
When she first sees Granny-on-the-computer. She laughs LOUDLY.
Pretty much the only thing that does not make her laugh is when she's hungry or she falls over. But she sits right up and gets over it.
I hope the kiddo keeps this disposition because she has a great joy for life (and it's contagious!).

Betsy talk
Betsy is a chatter box. We've been anxiously awaiting her first words, and I'm pretty sure we have words happening (that we can't understand).
1. Oogle (We think she's saying snoogle, it's her nickname). It usually comes out right after we've said it to her first.
2. Ah-ma (I think she's trying to say mama. Especially because this one comes out most often when she's upset)
3. Hi (When we say hi to her she makes this hay-coo noise back to us).
I am not going out on a limb enough to say Betsy is TALKING, but she is chattering. LOTS. And I anticipate a full-blown walking, blabbing baby in the next six weeks.

It's a girl party!
Sunday Ben and I hosted an impromptu 'It's a Girl!' party for his cousins Jonathan and Christi. J and C spent the weekend with us and miraculously didn't recognize the surprise in progress. I hadn't thought to put their gifts away and I had to bake in front of them, but I decorated the cake away from their line of sight then hid it in my office.
Sunday Ben asked J and C to head to Barnes and Noble with him to find a birthday gift for me. It gave me enough time to put together the decorations and move the goodies and gifts in the living room. The guest were Ben's immediate family (parents, brother, sister and nephew) his Aunt, Uncle, Cousins, and of course the guests of honor Jonathan and Christi (plus Abigail-in-utero). The guests wore pink to celebrate the rather recent discovery that the couple are having a girl.
I think it was a nice surprise, it was pretty low key, and it was fun celebrating the newest addition to the family :)
Size 3,6 and 9 month outfits

Sweet blanket with Abby's monogram

Cute gift boxes that match Abby's bedding

I love these socks!

Little bag with Abby's monogram

Recieving blankets

Burp cloths

It's a girl decorations

Chocolate cupcakes, white cake with butter creme frosting

Double chocolate cupcakes

Aunt Gail with cousin William and Betsy

Betsy with Uncle Byron's hat

Christi opening girl gifts :)

On a side note...guess who has discovered how to remove her own diaper?

Betsy's Cabbage Patch Kid
When I was a wee babe I loved loved loved my Cabbage Patch Kid. These are still being made, so of COURSE I decided Betsy needed one. Do I think she'll really play with it right now? No. Maybe in a few month's time. Betsy's CPK is named Garnett Belva. I laughed when I saw that, CPKs have some crazy names!
Watching her open the doll was classic. It seems to be the first time she understood something was a special present for her, she was squealing and bouncing around. Here's a quick video of the sweet girl seeing her new friend.
